well school has officially ended and all deadlines have been met. man, i love this feeling. unfortunately right after my last exam i had to get straight to work cuz derek and i were still in the middle of the hiring process in the theatre. anyhow we were able to hire 19 new people for the summer blockbuster season and had training all week long. don't get me wrong, i love working there for the sake of the environment and people, but after taking those 2 weeks off from work (exam week) i wasn't too excited going back and getting down to business. so we've been doing a lot of training this week and after a while, the stuff you're teaching the newbies become repetitive, esp since we can't train everyone at the same time and we usually end up splitting the group up to smaller groups. so we've been gearing up for the upcomming summer holiday. starting as of next week, we can expect every week to be busy as hell beginning with spiderman 3.
may 4 - spiderman 3
may 11 - 28 weeks later
may 18 - sherk 3rd
may 25 - pirates 3
and thats just may, wait till june and july comes out
harry potter
fantastic 4
transformers
simpsons
besides from working at the theatre, as of monday i'd basically be working full time as an intern for que-net media. that's gonna last for the entire 4 months of summer, 5 days a week, 8-5. got to say that i'm really exicted about this but at the same time sad that i can't have a longer break before starting out. doesn't really matter anyway now cuz i expected my 3rd year summer to be dedicated to this internship. anyhow, i expected to be really fun. luckily i'll also be working with another fellow GCMer there - there are 4 interns altogether, 2 from GCM (myself included) and 2 more from other colleges/universities - so it'll be great meet new people. i just hope that they don't expect us to be pros and know how to do everything they say. the worse case scenerio would be them tell me to do trapping or cropping or touchups or preflighting, etc without any proper training. cuz afterall i am placed in the prepress department and that is what i'm expected to do. but honestly, i think i would perfer working in the creative department such as designing sets, making props, setups for studio work, etc. i'm afterall a more hands-on creative person, atleast what i like to think. luckily they said that us interns would be rotating around the company so then we get a better understanding of the different departments.
its gonna be one interesting summer. more updates in the following week!
